One could see Stefan Malzkorn as one of the last universalists in photography, who traveled driven by his journalistic curiosity across (his) boundaries to new challenges.
Thus his photography is not only covering a wide range of photographic themes, but does tell about his technical expertise. Stefan started into professionalism with his own black-and-white prints, soon turning to 4c-slideimages to meet the requests of photo-agencies.
He self educated himself the use of professional studio-light which became a inherent part of his work on location.
In 1999 he was one of the first free-lance photographers to see he opportunities the then new digital photography gave to the pro: The fast means of communicating images that came with it were most convincing to him.
