Stephan Remmler – Malzkorn’s Rock’n’Roll: 13 days left

“Alert” was a small, fine interview magazine, in DIN A5 format – very visionary, also a bit elitist, and something in between the photocopied “fanzines” and a glossy art magazine. Max Dax was the combination of mastermind, editor-in-chief and publisher – and once told me that he had managed to get his inheritance through with the “alert”. Back then, Max already had a Mac laptop with a docking station and of course was already doing desktop publishing – which was totally impressive for me.

We traveled to Berlin together, elegantly by train in the “Mitropa” dining car – with our 2nd class tickets. Max could do things like that because he was cool.

Back then, Berlin still gave the feeling of the “Mauerstadt”, just four years after the German reunification – and I mean the interview took place in the Adlon-Hotel.

I was then supposed to photograph Stephan Remmler and Kalle Krawinkel from “Trio” together for the record company. „Trio“ had been one of the most influential bands of the „Neue Deutsche Welle“ in the 1980ties. Which, given my inexperience, I didn’t do well because I put both of them in full sunlight. But I still like the picture of Stephan in the large banquet hall to this day.

The original is a 35mm b&w-negative. The print was made in 1994 and has a format of 45 x 30 cm.

„Alert“ war so ein kleines, feines Interview-Magazin, im DIN A5 – Format – sehr visionär, auch etwas elitär, und ein Zwischending zwischen den fotokopierten „Fanzines“ und einem Hochglanz-Kunstmagazin. Max Dax war die Personalunion aus Blattmacher, Chefredakteur und Verleger – und meinte mal zu mir, dass er mit dem „alert“ seine Erbschaft durchgebracht hätte. Max hatte schon damals einen Mac-Laptop mit Docking-Station und natürlich schon unterwegs im Desktop-Publishing – was für mich total beeindruckend war.

Wir sind zusammen nach Berlin gefahren, elegant im Mitropa-Speisewagen – mit unseren 2. Klasse-Tickets. Max konnte solche Dinge, denn er war cool.

Berlin war damals immer noch eine „Rest“-Mauerstadt, eben mal vier Jahre nach der „Wende“ – und ich meine das Interview fand im Adlon statt.

Ich selber sollte dann im Anschluss Stephan Remmler und Kalle Krawinkel von „Trio“ zusammen für die Plattenfirma fotografieren. „Trio“ war in den 1980er Jahren eine der einflussreichsten Bands der „Neuen Deutschen Welle“.

Mit meiner Unerfahrenheit gelang das Doppelportrait eher nicht, denn ich habe beide ins pralle Sonnenlicht gestellt. Aber das Bild von Stephan in dem großen Bankettsaal mag ich bis heute.

Das Original ist ein schwarz-weißes Negativ. Die analog hergestellte Vergrößerung ist ein Einzelstück und hat das Format 45 x 30 cm.
